The Germans established farms cultivating cash crops such as coffee, tea, and cardamom in Cobán, Carchá, Tucurú, and Senahú. Enrique Rodolfo Diesseldorff was one of the first Germans to arrive in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala.

 

1903-1906 — The German farmer Oscar Majus Kloeffer, experimented with planting black tea (Camelia Sinensis L.) in front of one of the area caves. From this, the name Chirrepec originated. In Q´eqchi´ CHIRRE means BESIDE and PEC means the ROCK.

 

1967 — Based on an agreement with the government, the Cooperative was formed for the inhabitants with the objective of transfering operational and administrative responsibility from the farm to the people of Chirrepec.

 

8 de Mayo 1968. The Cooperativa Integral Agrícola Chirrepec, R.L. was established. The first executive board, composed of associates of the Chirrepec community, was inaugurated, while the managing directors remained representatives of the government.

 

1980 — To strengthen the organization, it was decided by the associates and directors that the role of government manager was eliminated.

 

1992-1993 — Modern installations were constructed: a factory and administrative offices.

 

1997 — The Cooperative began to diversify its activities, with the affect of implementing reforestation projects with the support of the Federation of Cooperatives in the Verapaces, (FEDECOVERA R.L.) and the Nacional Forest Institute (INAB).

 

CURRENTLY — The Cooperative continues to work with the cultivation, processing, and marketing of its product, TE CHIRREPECO, focusing on quality, service, and social responsability, as well as with maintaining its forestry business.
